Thus, recaplysis posts will make up the bulk of our posting. Grimm takes precedence, and we still intend to get those out every Saturday from here through May-whatever when the finale airs. (Yes, by the way, we did see the interview that said the ring on Renard's left hand isn't a wedding ring. We also swore a whole lot. We're not scrambling to change the speculation right now; we'll wait to see if we get any actual damn data. Not that we're frothing at the mouth for murderboards. We would never.) Person of Interest is at the moment being shifted to a mid-week posting, both to give us some breathing room and to give you guys more space to read ALL the snark. (We're giving like that.) By current estimate, unless we marathon our way through a bunch of Person of Interest, we should be caught up with currently-airing eps sometime in s3. I'd apologize, but these are fun and I don't think either of us wants to miss a vital bit of data from early eps due to skipping a bunch. And last but not forgotten, Haven s1&2 recaplyses are running in the background at the moment; we'd like to start putting those out after Grimm finishes airing, with the goal of finishing them up in time for the s4 premiere.
Obviously, we are not planning to add a new show anytime soon. Just in case that wasn't clear. Now the part you've all been waiting for! Behind the jump, lots of us saying 'fuck.'
A: Who us?
A: But yeah. There's something I'm trying to tease out about the Arthuriana.
A: Like... pfff.
K: *wry* The fucking love potion?
A:: If they're avoiding England-in-history so as to use it as Mythic Place or something.
K: Hrrm.
A: Which STILL doesn't make sense, because it's not like the Brits don't layer those neatly.
K: *grumps* Kessler and Burkhardt are German names. There ARE no English names in this whole goddamn thing. Uh-huh.
K: (Or not so neatly. As the case may be.)
A: And yeah, you really, REALLY can't do the German side, especially post-Victorian, without MENTIONING THE FUCKING ENGLISH.
K: I just.
K: It's got to be deliberate at this point. It's GOT TO.
K: You cannot fucking do the CRUSADES WITHOUT MENTIONING THE FUCKING ENGLISH.
K: It's half their fucking fault. Or more.
A: YES.
K: OH REALLY THE FUCK NOW. [link]
A: .................................................................................................................................
K: !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A: That actually doesn't mean it WASN'T a wedding ring.
K: No.
K: But.
A: Yeah.
K: *wry* That little girl came from SOMEWHERE.
A: *stares hard at them* Seriously, what the FUCK. Yes.
K: What the hell else looks like that.
K: Or at least. *kicks brain out of stare and stammer mode* Mm. There's no other social construct type ring that looks like that, that I can think of.
K: That doesn't mean it's not significant in some way, nor that there's not some indication to the significance, say, engraved inside.
K: Fuck, maybe it's the One Ring.
K: It's not even... I mean, Dave's a nasty secret-keeping piece of work, but Vince?
K: WHY DO YOU HAVE AN ARMY?
K: FUCK YOU VINCE.
K: And what the fuck does that symbol even mean and it goes back to early days in Haven and WHY DOES IT DISAPPEAR AND REAPPEAR.
K: ... and does this mean Vince is related to Julia?
A: Julia Carr THANK YOU BRAIN for finally coughing that up. Uh-huh.
A: Eleanor's about the right age.
K: THAT IS NOT LIKE ANSWERS.
A: THAT IS, IN FACT, A LOT LIKE MORE QUESTIONS. Yeah.
K: I love, love, LOVE the subtle wardrobe changes.
K: With Claire, at least.
A: YES.
A: Oh, right, monster/victim, Arla classing herself as the one specifically, etc. You wanna fill that bit in?
K: Yep. *wry grin* Was just about to.
A: *shuts up and keeps piloting the Blue Lion!* XD
K: ..... Shiiiiiiit.
K: They SAID we'd get to see young Vince and Dave.
K: IS THAT YOUNG VINCE?
A: Shitfuckingsonofabitch.
A: YES.
K: IS THAT YOUNG VINCE?
K: I DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW TO FEEL ABOUT THIS.
A: ...oh.
K: The barn heard them.
A: Well, okay then.
A: Yep.
K: Which posts did we put that under?
K: A;DSGH;KJSDFHGS.
K: MAGICALLY APPEARING TATTOO.
K: THE FUCK.
A: YES. AUGH.
A: At least we know wosshername's wasn't an accident.
K: Yes.
K: I wonder if that's, then, not HER Trouble.
K: but Vince's.
K: Well, Vince and Dave's.
A: That would be interesting. Ye-es.

It just now occurred to me that there is one VERY English name on the show: Silverton. Which makes me wonder if Juliette has Additional Significance within the whole Arthurian framework.
ReplyDelete...your point, it is good. Between that and the shooting last season that we still have NO EXPLANATION FOR RARR, there's definitely something going on.
DeleteThey mentioned very briefly in "La Llorona" that Juliette lived in Spain for awhile. This has to become ALL THE RELEVANT later on. If it were intended to be a throw-away explanation, they probably would've made it "a semester in Mexico/Ecuador/Venezuela" or something (since we know from previous episodes that before now, the Royals haven't really dirtied their hands much in the New World, which includes Central and South America as indicated by the lack of Grimms referenced in the episode "The Other Side,") as opposed to having her spend an apparently significant period of her life in a country that is well within the territory of the Royal Families. It isn't England, but…the Spanish and the English do have a history of Not Liking Each Other very violently. And anytime Not Liking Each Other comes up, people have a reason to change locations and take interesting artifacts with them.
DeleteDude. ARTIFACTS.
Oh man you guys you guys you guys I just remembered something. There's a church in Valencia, Spain…(*Googles*)…called Saint Mary of Valencia that claims to have the holy grail in its possession. Granted, it's one of several churches that claims to have the real grail…but it might still be relevant in the context of the show, if Juliette's time in Spain is indeed a Relevant Thing and if they decide to go somewhere with the Arthurian angle.
There's a SHITTON of churches that claim to have the Grail, though we've exposited theories on less data than that, I will grant. I just. There have been SO MANY GUNS INCLUDING THAT LITERAL ONE put on Juliette's mantel, and we have yet to have a single one actually fire. (The only exception to this is Juliette's profession, which got her poisoned. GRUMBLE.) I don't count her firing around Renard as firing the literal gun, because there's no clear linkage and no source for her skill given.
DeleteFrankly I doubt they're going to go directly for Grail-as-object mythos, this is feeling more and more like Holy Blood Holy Grail style weapon/mythology.
